Archaeologist David Greenwald discusses the stratigraphy at Creekside Village, which shows the Rio Tularosa maintained steady flow through the late Holocene, creating slow-moving waters and riparian wetlands. Between A.D. 300–900, the area shifted from moist, winter-dominated vegetation to a drier, summer-moisture regime—likely due to canal construction that diverted water for irrigation and drained wetlands for farming.
