MIDWEST—The Archaeological Conservancy Midwest Region, in partnership with a team of local volunteers, recently undertook an important preservation effort at the Sumnerville Mound Preserve in Michigan. To safeguard the integrity of this significant archaeological site, the group installed snow fencing along vulnerable sections of the preserve. This measure is designed to reduce erosion caused by wind and seasonal weather while also serving as a barrier to prevent snowmobile recreation near the mounds. Together, these protections help ensure the site’s structure remains intact and resilient against both natural and human impacts.
